The Northwestern Bulls of Miami, Florida outscored the St. Xavier Bombers of Cincinnati, Ohio, 123-119 in the final composite high school football ratings of 2007. Both teams finished with 15-0 records and won their respective state championships.
Katy High School of Texas (16-0) and South Panola of Batesville, Mississippi (15-0) finished third and fourth respectively. Katy scored 111 composite points and South Panola 105.
More than two dozen other state champions finished the 2007 season unbeaten, leaving a heap of doubt as to the which was really the best team in the nation. All of the top 11 teams were undefeated.
This final composite rankings were determined by awarding 25 points for first place, 24 for second, etc. in the polls conducted by ESPN, USA Today, Prep Nation, Rise Magazine and Sports Illustrated/CNN,
Northwestern finished first in the USA Today, ESPN and Sports Illustrated/CNN polls and second in the other three. St. Xavier finished first in the Prep Nation and Rise Magazine polls. It finished second in the ESPN and Sports Illustrated/CNN polls but was dropped to fifth in the USA Today ratings.
With Northwestern, Booker T. Washington and Pahokee all in the top eight, Florida dominated the Top 25 composite rankings with 335 points. California was second with four teams in the Top 25 totaling 233 points. Ohio was third with 145 points and Texas fourth with 139.
