Use bold, creative graphics, colors and photos to grab attention, but be sure the company hired knows how to apply the vinyl to the vehicle correctly

Vehicle vinyl wraps provide one of their best options for small companies having to stretch their advertising dollars in today’s highly competitive market. When creative car or truck wraps are correctly applied they can attract heavy attention, are usually inexpensive compared to other forms of advertising and have major advantages over some forms of advertising.

The wraps provide more flexibility than paint and they can tell much more about a company than the traditional name, address and phone number found on many business vehicles. They can reflect a company’s character, illustrate its products and services and even highlight its people.

However, people in the business warn potential buyers that vinyl wraps should not be bought on price alone because each wrap requires:

  • Creative graphics to attract attention
  • A series of precise installation steps
  • High quality vinyl and adhesive materials
  • A plan for upgrading or removing the wrap when it is no longer needed.

Vinyl Bubbling

Bubbling is one of the most feared problems in the industry. Careful installation is required to avoid it. High grade perforated material is also required for windows to allow riders to see through them. Some local and state governments have limited the use of window wraps for safety reasons.

Vinyl wrap company websites estimate prices for wrapping a standard car can range from $2,500 to $5,000, depending on the design, vehicle size and shape, window area and other factors. The manufacturers guarantee their materials for five years provided it is properly installed and laminated.

Leading companies in the business provide installers who are certified by an industry association or materials manufacturer. Buyers should insist on the certification when negotiating for a wrap.

Although ad agencies often design and handle vehicle wrapping arrangements for clients, small firms can work and negotiate directly with the wrapping companies.

Vehicle Wrap Advantages

The industry likes to point out that:

  • Consumers cannot turn off vinyl wraps as they can television and radio sets
  • Vehicle wraps come to the consumer, rather than having to be found as they often must be in newspaper and magazines.
  • The mobile billboards are less expensive than larger stationary boards.

Industry leaders also say vehicle wrap impressions are generally cheaper per thousand than other media, but that figure will depend on the use, location and everyday visibility of the vehicle. They can be brought to conventions, fairs and other large targeted gatherings.

Large firms illustrated their confidence in vinyl wraps years ago by wrapping entire fleets of buses and trucks. Some have also used wraps on vehicles that simply drive into heavy traffic areas to assure high visibility, but that practice has been halted in at least one major city.
