The Rediffusion DY&R agency in India shows how to use escalator steps to dramatize different hair styles available at the Juice Salon.

For sheer creativity, it is tough to beat the escalator ad developed in India for a hair salon.

As described by Mental Floss Magazine and illustrated on its website, the advertising features a different hairstyle (forehead up) on each step of the escalator and a full headshot of a man at the base of the elevator.

As the steps work their way down to the floor and slide into the bottom of the escalator, the different hairstyles slip over the man's head, showing him with continually changing hairstyles.

The advertising was produced by the Rediffusion DY&R agency of Mumbai, India, for Juice Salon.

It’s perfect for a hair salon. And since the idea will probably work with a lot of other products and services, our escalators may become the latest advertising medium. After all, the elevator provides built-in animation and the steps represent one of the few remaining places we haven't written on, yet.

Imagine the people standing around the elevator waiting for clever changes in a product or service. Shopping malls could promote them as unique attractions.

Who knows? Someday escalators may be as covered with ads as our buses are these days.

Sorry about that.
